“Night Beckons” is an original mixed media collage inspired by the quiet of aspen groves.
Each tree in the piece is made from individually hand-drawn strips of paper. I used pencil and pen to create abstract aspen bark textures, eye motifs, small marks and symbols. These paper strips were then carefully collaged and glued to a stretched canvas, creating a layered, tactile surface that plays with line and texture.
The standout feature is the midnight-blue stripe running vertically through the grove. Painted in acrylic and filled with bright stars, it represents that in-between moment when day becomes night and other senses begin to wake up.
I love working in this method. If you’re familiar with my custom pet portraits, you’ll notice a big shift here with less realism and more rhythm and imagination. This series has opened up a new creative path for me, and I’m excited to see where it leads. This artwork invites a closer look.
